In the ARRL January VHF Sweepstakes contacts at or above 2.3-GHz are worth 8-points a piece. Few hams believe that they have microwave equipment to use but in reality, if they have a computer that's WiFi-capable, they do! This past January,  Chuck and Rusty tried a different approach in contesting. In this talk they will discuss WiFi and it's use in the VHF Sweepstakes by a rover. A demo of plain text and audio/visual contacts will be made. Members are welcome to bring their WiFi equipped laptop and join in the demo!

July 10, 2007 - Rusty – AE5AE will be presenting the ARISS contact with Virginia Run Elementary School (Centreville, VA).  Presentation of a DVD with video and several sequences of still pictures from the preparations and setup of the 10-minute contact with Astronaut Suni Williams on the ISS.  This DVD was put together by the Vienna Wireless Society (Vienna, VA) and also includes two clips from Channel 4 (Washington, DC) TV station newscasts.  The ISS contact was on March 2, 2007.  The DVD itself runs about 20-minutes in length and he can add about 5-10 minutes of introduction

November 9, 2004, John Beadles, N5OOM - High Speed Multi Media (HSMM) is an ARRL project to bring high speed data services to amateur radio. We will discuss the HSMM project, applications, equipment and information sources.

September 9, 2003 Loney Duncan, W0GZV - The ART-13, A Paradigm Shift Radio. Probably no other radio had the impact on aircraft communications during WWII as the Collins Autotune ART-13 Transmitter. Presentation includes a live demonstration.

August 12, 2003 Dick Weber, K5IU - World famous radio antenna lecturer will discuss the effects of guy wires on antenna radiation.

July 8, 2003 Joe Jurecka, N5PYK and Dave Robinson, WW2R - Texas Microwave Society members will give a presentation on weak signal UHF/Microwave Propagation, including a live demonstration fo a microwave link.

May 13, 2003 Bruce Dingman, N5BYL - Bruce is President of the Plano Amateur Radio Club and Collin County Emergency Coordinator for ARES. Subjects will be an update on Collin County Emergency Planning Status and a presentation on disaster recovery communications support for the Shuttle Columbia loss over Nacogdoches in February.

April 8, 2003 J. B. Jenkins, W5EU - J. B. is well known antique radio collector and former employee of Collins Radio. His presentation will focus on the early radios manufactured by Collins Radio Company and first amateur radios personally used by Art Collins personally.

March 11, 2003 MARC Member Show & Tell - MARC Members be bringing home brew projects to share the construction and performance details with other club members.

February 11, 2003 Jennifer Johnston - Jennifer is a Graduate Student in Biology at University of North Texas. She is in preparation of a thesis entitled "Radiotelemetric Post-Release Survival Rate and Home-Range Establishment of Orphaned Great-Horned Owls in Denton County, Texas". MARC members will be assisting her research in coordination with the Heard Museum in tracking (via RDF) Raptors that have been equipped with tail mounted radio transmitters.

May 9, 2000 - Donald E. Smith, W5EXP, will provide us with a preview of the upcoming Ham Com being held in Arlington June 10th. Club will also receive hands on demonstration and instruction on the use of the logging program to be used for field day.

April 11, 2000 - Phil Salas, AD5X, Presentation on Low Cost Antenna Construction. Phil will discuss simple and low cost antennas that can be built with readily available plumbing parts and aluminum tubing. Focus will concentrate on vertical antennas, traps, whips, and base and house mounts.

February 8, 2000 - Allen Koch, KB5SVL, Presentation on "Personal RF Radiation Exposure". Presentation will include Government Radiation Guidelines and recommendations for radiation safety in amateur radio. Allen is a past member of MARC, and a Microwave Radio Program Manager Specialist at Alcatel Network Systems.

May 11, 1999 - Jay Terleski, WX0B, "A Short Study of Yagi-Uda Stacked Arrays" Discussion to include real world antenna stacking and how to control the take-off angle of the stacked array. What happens when you split directions in stacks, F12 C3 Tri-band Stacks for little pistols who want a big signal, and 40m shorty 40 stacks vs full size 3 ele 40m beam.

April 13, 1999 - Glen Zook, K9STH, "Lightning Protection and Radio Frequency Grounding". Presentation to include brief theory session on the causes of lightning, how it affects amateur radio antennas, and tips on how to reduce the possibility of a lightning strike hitting the amateur antenna. Included are some inexpensive tips which can be included in the antenna installation to reduce the possibility of a strike by up to 99%.

March 9, 1999 - John Barber, N5JB, well known North Texas Contester and serious satellite station operator will deliver a presentation on propagation, including daily peiodic and cyclical cycles. He will analyze the ionization layers and their effects. He will also show us how to interpret and use information from QST, CQ, WWV and ARRL Bulletins.

February 9, 1999 - Ed Goodman, N5NUG, President/Owner of Uni-Hat Corporation, a manufacturer of high performance vertical antennas. He will describe the theory and circumstance behind the development of the "Capacitance Terminated Short Vertical Radiator", a multiband vertical for the lower ham bands.

January 12, 1999 - Brent Childers, W5WW and Ron Chambers, K5PN, will tell of their adventure to Granada operating as J3A for the 1998 CQ Worldwide SSB contest.

Meetings of the McKinney Amateur Radio Club are open to all licensed Amateur Radio operators, their families, and guests with an interest in Amateur Radio activities
